I managed to miss this along the line, along with your link, but I'll be sure to go visit.
-- My alltime favorite science fiction movie soundtrack is to the original 1951 movie version of The Thing! Not sure but I think it was composed by Victor Tiomkin. Close second is the music for the Frankenstein movies of the early-mid 1930s.
2001 A Space Odyssy is a great score, of course but most of that is straight out of classical musical scores, like the theme, which is the introducion to Richard Strauss' Also Spracht Zarathustra and the space station theme is The Blue Danube Waltz by Johann Strauss (no relation to Richard). Same with A Clockwork Orange -- Kubrick was a symphonic music enthusiast and used a lot of excerpts in his movies.
